Timed Release B-Vitamins and Niacin
The B vitamins are necessary for healthy nerves, skin, hair, muscles, organs, eyes, gastrointestinal tract, and brain function. They are coenzymes involved in energy production, and may be useful in alleviating anxiety and depression. The need for B vitamins increase with age because of poor absorption. They should be taken as a complex, but 2-3 times as much of one or more of the individual B vitamins can be taken for a particular disorder.
VITAMIN B1 (Thiamine) Enhances circulation, assists in blood formation, important for digestion and production of hydrochloric acid and carbohydrate metabolism, optimizes brain and cognitive function, learning capacity, energy, growth, appetite, helps muscle tone of the heart, stomach, intestines, acts as an antioxidant, protecting against degeneration, aging, smoking, and alcohol. DEFICIENCY SIGNS: Beriberi (nervous disorder caused by deficiency of B1), constipation, severe weight loss, tingling sensations, weak/sore muscles, numbness of the hands or feet, nervousness, muscle atrophy, appetite loss, irritability, GI disturbances, heart changes, forgetfulness, fatigue, edema, enlarged liver, constipation. ANTIBIOTICS, ORAL CONTRCEPTIVES, HIGH CARBOHYDRATE DIET, SULFA DRUGS INCREASE THE NEED FOR THIAMINE.
VITAMIN B2 (Riboflavin) is necessary for red blood formation, growth, antibody production, cellular respiration, helps eye fatigue, treats/prevents cataracts, important in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, proteins, with vit. A maintains/improves mucous membranes of the intestines, facilitates oxygen usage by cells of skin, nails, hair, eliminates dandruff, helps absorb iron and vit. B6, prevents fetus damage, needed for metabolism of tryptophan, treats carpal tunnel syndrome with B6. DEFICIENCY SIGNS: eye disorders, skin lesions, inflammation and cracks/sores at cormers of the mouth, retarded growth, poor digestion, light sensitivity, insomnis, dizziness, hair loss, dermatitis, slowed mental response. EASILY DESTROYED BY LIGHT, ANTIBIOTICS, ALCOHOL. ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES AND EXERCISE INCREASES THE NEED.
VITAMIN B3 (niacin, niacinamide, nicotinic acid) is needed for proper circulation, healthy skin, metabolism of fats carbohydrates, proteins, production of hydrochloric acid, bile secretion and stomach secretions, proper nervous system function, synthesis of sex hormones, lowers cholesterol, memory, mental illness including schizophrenia. DEFICIENCY SIGNS include muscle weakness, low blood sugar, loss of appetite, limb pains, insomnia, indigestion, depression, canker sores, dementia, diarrhea, dizziness, fatigue, halitosis, headaches. CAUTION: NIACIN CAUSES A HARMLESS SKIN FLUSH. AVOID TIME-RELEASE NIACIN AND HIGHER THAN 500 MGS. DAILY. CONSULT PHYSICIAN IF YOU ARE PREGNANT, DIABETIC, HAVE GLAUCOMA, GOUT, LIVER DISEASE OR ULCERS.
VITAMIN B5 (pantothenic acid) is known as the "anti-stress vitamin" because of its role in adrenal hormone production, and formation of antibodies. It also helps convert fats, carbohydrates, proteins to energy, aids in vitamin utilization, is concentrated in the organs but is needed by all body cells, is an essential element in coenzyme A, is envolved in neurotransmitter production and many other metabolic functions, enhances stamina, prevents certain forms of anemia, helps depression, anxiety, gastrointestinal function. DEFICIENCY SIGNS include fatigue, nausea, headache, tingling in the hands.
VITAMIN B6 (pyridoxine) is one of the most important nutrients and affects both mental and physical health, necessary for the production of hydrochloric acid, absorption of fats, proteins, helps prevent water retension by sodium and potassium regulation, required by the nervous system, brain, synthesis of RNA and DNA, promotes red blood cell production, activates enzymes, helps absorption of B12, antibody production, helps prevent arteriosclerosis, boosts cancer immunity, inhibits homocysteine reducing cholesterol around the heart, is a mild diuretic, helps with PMS, may help prevent oxalate kidney stones, helps allergies, arthritis, asthma. DEFICIENCY SIGNS anemia, flaky skin, cracks/sores around mouth and lips, acne, inflammation of the gums, convulsions, headaches, nausea, depression, dizziness, fatigue, hyperirritability, impaired wound healing, hair loss, oily facial skin, hearing problems, learning difficulty, stunted growth, anorexia, weak memory, carpal tunnel syndrome. DIURETICS, CORTISONE BLOCKS THE ABSORPTION OF B6. ANTIDEPRESSANTS, ESTROGEN THERAPY, ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES INCREASE THE NEED FOR B6.
VITAMIN B12 (cyanocobalamin) is necessary to prevent anemia, with folic acid aids in the formation of red blood cells, utilization of iron, it is required for proper digestion, absorption of foods, synthesis of proteins, metabolism of fats, carbohydrates, prevents nerve damage by protecting the nerve endings (fatty sheaths), maintains fertility, assists memory and learning via acetylcholine production. DEFICIENCY SIGNS are most common in the elderly and people with digestive disorders from malabsorption and include abnormal gait, dizziness, nervousness, palpitations, ear ringing, spinal cord degeneration, pernicious anemia, neurologic damage, moodiness, digestive disorders, labored breathing, chronic fatigue, constipation, depression, liver enlargement, eye disorders, hallucinations, headaches. CAUTIONS: ANTI-GOUT, ANTICOAGULANT  DRUGS AND POTASSIUM SUPPLEMENTS MAY BLOCK ABSORPTION OF B12. THE BODY CAN STORE UP TO 5 YEARS OF B12 IN THE INTESTINES, BUT STRICT VEGETARIANS MUST SUPPLEMENT.
FOLIC ACID is needed for energy production, formation of red blood cells, to strengthen the immune system by aiding in the function and formation of white blood cells. It is a coenzyme in RNA and DNA synthesis and needed for cell division and replication, protein metabolism and is considered a brain food. It is useful in treating folic acid anemia and may help depression, anxiety and uterine cervical dysplasia. It necessary for pregnancy and regulates embronic and fetal nerve cell formation. Studies have shown that 400 mcgs.daily before pregnancy may prevent premature birth. Folic acid works best when combined with Vit. C and B12. DEFICIENCY SIGNS include sore red tongue, anemia, paranoia, apathy, fatigue, digestive disturbances, graying hair, insomnia, growth impairment, labored breathing, memory problems, weakness, birth defects in offspring. Cooking fruits and vegatables destroys folic acid. CAUTION: DO NOT TAKE HIGH DOSES OF FOLIC ACID FOR EXTENDED TIME IF YOU HAVE A HORMAONE RELATED CANCER OR CONVULSIVE DISORDER. ORAL CONTRACEPTIVES AND ALCOHOL INCREASES THE NEED FOR FOLIC ACID
BIOTIN  aids in fatty acid production, utilization of other B vitamins, carbohydrate, fat, protein metabolism, and cell growth, necessary for healthy hair and skin, healthy sweat glands, nerve tissue, bone marrow and helps relieve muscle pain. Seborrheic dermatitis or "cradle cap" is considered to be from biotin inadequacy. Deficiencies are rare because it can be produced by a variety of foods including egg yolks, meat, milk, poultry, soybeans, whole grains, fish. CAUTION: RANCID OILS AND FATS INCLUDING OLD VITAMIN E & A INHIBIT BIOTIN ABSORPTION AS DO SULFA DRUGS, SACCHARIN AND ANTIBIOTICS.
CHOLINE is needed for nerve transmission from brain through the central nervous system, regulate liver, gallblader function, lecithin formation, aids  in hormone production, decongests the liver of fats and cholesterol, It is beneficial for disorders of the nervous system like Parkinson's and tardive dyskinesia because without choline brain function and memory are impaired. DEFICIENCY SIGNS include fatty liver, cardiac symptoms, inability to digest fats, high blood pressur, gastric ulcers, stunted growth, kidney and liver impairment. CAUTION: CHOLINE AND PHOSPHATIDYLCHOLINE ARE GENERALLY WELL TOLERATED BUT HIGH DOSES OF PHOSPHATIDYLCHOLINE MAY CAUSE REDUCED APPETITE, NAUSEA, ABDOMINAL BLOATING,GI PAIN, DIARRHEA AND SHOULD NOT BE USED WITHOUT A PHYSICIAN IF THERE IS DEPRESSION (UNIPOLAR OR CLINICAL)
IINOSITOL is vital for hair growth, helps prevent hardening of the arteries, reduce cholesterol levels, important in the formation of lecithin, has a calming effect and used in conjuction with methione and choline to decongest the liver of fats. DEFICIENCY SIGNS  include constipation, hair loss, high cholesterol, irritability, mood swings, skin eruptions, arteriosclerosis.
CAUTION: LARGE AMOUNTS OF CAFFEINE MAY CAUSE INOSITOL SHORTAGE.
PABA (para-amino benzoic acid) is a basic constituent of folic acid, helps in the assimilation of pantothenic acid, protects against sunburn and skin cancer, acts as a coenzyme in the breakdown and utilization of proteins, assists in red blood cell formation, helps maintain normal intestinal flora, helps restore gray hair to its original color if it is from stress. DEFICIENCY SIGNS include depression, fatigue, irritability, gastrointestinal disorders, nervousness, patchy areas of white skin and graying of hair.
